Default SIDE AIRBAG light - what is this sensor on the seat?

So, my SIDE AIRBAG light used to randomly go on and off. Now it is stuck on. 2002 Accord EX Sedan.

Here is what I've learned. It used to only do it when something was placed on the PASSENGER SIDE seat. Now, it comes on 100% of the time regardless. If I press the lower seat back on the left side, the LIGHT GOES OFF immediately. I can feel a sensor under the fabric.

What is this sensor and is it "easy" to replace?

If you have 157,500 miles or less on your car, you may be able to get it fixed under Honda's extended warranty on the Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), which was due to a class action settlement. It can be the OPDS unit or the OPDS sensor. The TSB is in the following link and includes some instructions on replacement even if you are no longer under the extended warranty period.

Perfect! Thanks Redbull. I only have 75k on the car, so I'll give it a shot.
