im having a few problems with my car its a 1994 honda accord 2.2 vtec with a/t tranny i got it from a friend and from the moment i got it ive been replacing everything... i just replaced the head gasket on it about 4 days ago and now im having a few problems with the idle its hunting bad it wont idle and less than 1000 when in drive and when in neutral it jumps between 1000 and 1500 im sure it has to do with the IACV but not 100%. also it has this horrible howling noise coming from the intake i dont kno how to describe it honestly, but i cant seem to get either of them to go away and ive tried everything i can think of...... please someone help me its my every day ride cant afford to lose it....

Did you have the cylinder head milled before you replaced the head gasket? That cylinder head needs to be perfectly flat.

In the common DIY section, there is a link to checking engine codes. Try that procedure and see if there are any engine codes.

Edit, the common diy thread is on top of the gen tech help forum. The link for checking codes is in there.

Will the rpm's accel at all-I've seen where the tps and map sensor connectors get reversed...most of the time when that happens the car will idle but when you go to give gas it dies out. Doesn't quite sound like your issue.

From here, start with checking coolant level. Then look for vac leaks (bad gaskets, hoses, ect).

the rpm's accel but when getting into high rpm it acts as if it doesnt want to go... ive checked all my lines and coolant levels are good as far as i can tell.. it drives alright with the exception of a few minor kinks can driving it in this condition cause any further problems???

Check that you didn't switch the plug for the map sensor and the TPS sensor. I think that they have the same electrical connector.

The wire colors for the map sensor are:

yel/wht
grn/wht
wht/yel

The TPS:

grn/blu
red/blk
yel/blu

Go to that common diy thread. There is a link for online shop manuals. The hondatech link has a 94link shop manual that will allow you to do some electrical testing. That info is in the fuel/emissions section.

I would check the grounds. I would unbolt them, clean them with a wire brush, then reattach.

In that same sticky or manual, there is a way to check for codes. Also from there, have you double checked the coolant level and for vac leaks?

Was this idle issue there before the headgasket replacement? Checking/cleaning/adjusting the IAC and FITV can't hurt but if this issue was not there before the gasket replacement, I'd be looking for a vac leak.
