Soft Grinding Noise In Neutral (5spd MT)
Hi all,
I've noticed that when in neutral (car stationary), I can hear a soft grinding noise coming from the engine bay area. This noise goes away with I fully depress the clutch pedal. I noticed this in my old '94 Accord LX and figured it was just one of the many noises that car makes, but then I started noticing it on my newer (and better kept) '00 Civic Si. Both cars have 5sp MT and both cars' clutches have been replaced by previous owners.
In both cars, shifting is fine and there aren't any obvious issues with the transmission in general. Is this normal or something I should be concerned about?
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the input shaft bearing in the transmission. The one closest to the flywheel, also called the inboard bearing on the mainshaft is going bad. You would need to pull the transmission and tap it out and replace it with a new bearing as well as a factory Honda oil seal.
