speedometer is irratic, fuel gauge starting now
Hello all, I need assistance with my 93 accord.....the speedo is not working half of the time. When you backup the speedo evens moves then. The fuel gauge is now starting to register incorrectly. Can anyone help me? My first idea is the speed sensor.....does anyone know how to test it? Thank you in advance ......

im at school right now im sure in my manual it says how to check the VSS ill try to post that up later, it does sound like that may be your problem. i remember on my accord back in the day, my voltage regulator went out and allowed a voltage spike to go through my dash and fryed the whole damn thing. i hope thats not your problem.

Hi Light, thank you for your response.....what is the VSS? Is the speed sensor located on the firewall on the passenger or drivers side. I am lost....Please help. Of course the other problems are to deal with the rough idle.....

On the topic of this...
Does anyone out there think that the cluster is crapping out? You may be onto it light, with that voltage spike. Anything's possible unfourtunetly.

My knowledge of guages is limited but based on what I know I'm almost leaning towards exactly what you are thinking mbo.. Cluster crapping out... I researched this issue VERY breifly and found this site on it... Basically if you've already replaced the VSS then they suggest it may be a bad connection/wiring issue.... Also, if any idiot lights are coming on I'd see if youre getting an error code and see what that is/post it...

Thanks to all of you for your invaluable help....The cluster was the culprit, but since then I have cleaned my IAC valve according to one to the threads and the engine runs smoother but about 700RPMS and a little vibration but not nearly as much as before. Do I need to reset my ECU?
