Default Squeaking, rhythmic noise coming from engine

I was hoping someone could help me with some troubleshooting. I know these things are a little hard to do over the internet, but bear with me.

Recently, I had to get my engine replaced so the mechanic installed a new engine. When I picked it up it was making this squeaking, rhythmic sound that is somehow connected to how fast the engine is revving. I say this because when I step on the gas the rhythm gets faster.

When I'm in sitting in the driver's seat, the sound is coming more from my right side (closer to the passenger side).

Any ideas?

Open the hood & see if you can pinpoint the location of the sound. I suspect it can be the external drive belt (serpentine belt).

JimBlake,

Thanks for the info.

I opened up the hood and I think you were right about the serpentine belt. The high pitched squeal was coming from that belt system on the left (when one is looking under the hood) near the front of the car.

What can I do to get rid of that noise?

Pinpoint a bit more...
It can be from any one (or more) of the pulleys on that belt. How to fix it depends on what's really causing the sound.

- Old belt just kinda squeaks all over? Belt-dressing can make it quiet temporarily (for diagnosis) but the real fix it to buy a new belt.

- Alternator bearings? Rebuild it (or buy a new/rebuilt alternator)

- Power steering pump?
- A/C compressor?

- Tensioner pulley? That's a relatively easy pulley to replace.

This is basically if you want to fix it yourself. If you give it to a shop, you're better off to show them the noise because if you mis-diagnose it then it's your own fault.

I had a new goodyear gatorback belt that made a lot of noise when I changed out my belts.

It was so annoying, that I replaced with a honda oem one and didn't hear belt noise after that once I got it tensioned properly.

To determine if it is a belt noise you can use a bar of soap. While it is running just let the belt cut into the bar and if it is the belt it should stop.
