Default SRS Airbag Light / Horn & Cruise Don't Work

Hello there,

Today I picked up my first Accord. It's a 1996 Accord LX, 2.2L SOHC, 4 door, black, auto with 133K miles. It's in really good shape however it has a few quirks. I bought it from a cousin who I really trust. They said that the only problems with it is a slight leak that the shop noticed from the AC and also that it needed new tires.

However, I failed to notice that the cruise doesn't work, the SRS light stays on (red), and I can't use the horn. It sat for 6 months because they never got around to selling it. The clock is displaying the wrong time so I'm guessing while it sat it ran out of juice and they had to jump start it. So they probably never noticed that the SRS light is on and that the cruise and horn stopped working.

I'm guessing that those things are all powered on the same circuit? It too dark out right now to check if it has a blown fuse but I figured that I would ask the forum as soon as possible before digging around.

Any thoughts on what I should check? Thanks

The SRS control unit will store a code for low voltage, and there is a reset method, but the other symptoms of the cruise and horn problem could lead to a problem in the 'reel' in the steering column.
It is a sliding contact set up, that allows the electrical contacts to work when the steering wheel is turned.

And tests to check the cruise control buttons;

At 133k miles you need to be sure the Timing belt has been changed

I have to agree with Dude ..sounds like there is an issue with the cable reel.. it also would make the srs lite come on .besides the other 2 issues ,

Thanks for the input. Is there anything else simple I could try like blown fuses? If it is the cable reel, is it hard to replace change? Is it something that I should tackle myself (if I took it somewhere how much do you think it would cost). Thanks!

I'm thinking of doing this myself. Are cable reels and clock springs the same thing with just different names or are they two different things? I'm having trouble finding a cable reel for a 1996 Accord LX 2.2L online. However I've been able to find a clock spring. They both look about the same in the pictures so I'm assuming it's the same thing with just a different name.
