Stalling When Braking
Well check this out. It was getting worse and worse. Stalls easier and easier. Often hard to start, like it wasn't getting enough gas.
Once the car was completely stopped it would fire back up. I noticed the fuel consumption was insane. like 1/2 a tank in a few days of testing and driving half a block now an then.
Managed to get to the gas station across the street and filled it up.
Problem gone.
Guess I need to look at the fuel pump? any ideas?

Check the vacuum line on the FPR. It should not have any fuel in it. If it does, the FPR is blown & you need another one.
Now... you had to reset your ECU because of unplugging the IACV? Does that mean you didn't follow the rest of the procedure for it to re-learn the idle control? Now that the IACV isn't blocked off, repeat the whole base idle & re-learn procedure. You may need to repeat that after doing work that affects idle, for example fixing vacuum leaks or replacing the FPR.

It sure was odd but glad it was a cheap fix.
I am guessing when the lever got low enough the submerged filter banged into the pickup on braking, it without the filter is sucked in too much air. Not sure but I am happy now.
Glad to update it. Nothing is more frustrating than finding related problems on online forums and never knowing what the resolution was.
I hope this comes in handy for someone in the future.

I am having pretty much the same issue with my '92 EX Wagon right now. I've asked different shops, and even buddies of mine that know cars, and last night a few of them finally thought it might be caused by fuel filter or something of the sort. Now that I found this forum, I am definitely going to look into the fuel screen. Thank you for posting the resolution!
