Default Starter occassionally grinds

2003 Accord EX 4 cyl, auto, 200K. Have noticed for a while when I start the car that the starter will grind for just a split second after engine starts. Doesn't happen all the time, seems to be more prominent in colder weather. I'm assuming it's the starter but could it be anything else? Probably will just replace the starter but wondering if anything else could be the cause. Thanks!

This may be starter being overdriven by starting engine. This can happen when the overunning clutch does release quickly as engine catches. Fix is to remove clean clutch and relubricate clutch and shaft w/ moly grease per shop manual.

If you don't DIY, then starter rebuild or replacement is probably best solution.

good luck
