Default starting issue

A couple of days ago I was out running errands. at my next to last stop it took me around 10 mins or so. I come out to start the car and its not starting. the day was 65* I was driving with the windows down, and driving normally. The starting issue went like this, turn key, ran for about 1.5 seconds then quit, tried to start again and just turned over. waited a few mins, tried to start again, again ran for about 1.5 secs then quit. tried a 3rd time and the car fired up fine and has ran fine ever since. possible causes???

First thought is loss of ignition power. Ignition switch fault seems most likely. If you have any kind of anti-theft device, this would be suspect also.

Next would be loss of fuel supply. Perhaps and intermittent Main Fuel Relay dropping out, opening power to the fuelpump, or fuel pump sticking.

A "tell-tale" light rigged to either blk-yel ignition power supply or to the fuel pump power supply lead in the trunk would show if power is missing when problem appears.

good luck

I dont have an anti theft on there, I was thinking the main relay goofed up but the lower temps. (it was in the mid-60's that day) was making me think something else was suspect. where is the lead in the trunk located because I have a test light that I could hook up to it?

You have to pull the trunk base liner up. There is a plate w/ wires running under the plate. You will need to download (Check "Online Manuals" DIY post) a wiring diagram to be sure you connect to the correct hot wire. There's about 4 wires. Ground connection is nearby. You'll need to run two wires to the front so you can see the test light full time.

good luck
