on my 89 lx on the bottom of the dash sorta just to the left of the column is a little **** thingy that pulls out towards the driver. when i pull it out nothing happens. nothing seems to move. what is this for?

 

pull on the **** , push down on it and try moving the stering wheel up and down ,,, i believe you are talikng about the steering wheel tilt rod..

 

yeah i dont know what it does. i have been trying to get my wheel to tilt for about a week now. i pull it out and try and move the wheel nothing happens. i pull it out and let go of it and it goes back in by itself and the wheel still does nothing. so i decided i didnt know what it was and i would ask.

 

pull it out and push down.. then tilt the stering wheel..

 

ok gonna go try that right now.

 

yeah that worked. thanks....one more mystery solved.
