Exclamation Surface rust

06 Accord

On the bottom right corner of my hood (grill and headlight), I have a quarter size spot I want to fix before it becomes a problem. I bought a bottle of match paint from Advance Auto. Also have a sheet of sand piper. What is the best way to go about this? I have a bug shield that will be going on after this spot is taken care of. Thoughts please

Get some primer to apply after sanding, let primer dry before applying paint.

Not to sound silly but how do I actually sand? Wax on wax off style?

This is a good guide. You can just use the touch up paint you have without spraying, after sanding and priming.

The bottom ends of these hoods are double layer, so it is difficult to get all the rust without making a hole through both layers. Good luck, but the rust may come back. A new/used hood might be the only permanent solution.
