Default tach problem

My tach has a bit of a twitch, around 2-3k when you just cruising keeping the rpms steady the tech twitches up and down. and form 5k-8k its all funky. it hangs at 5k for a second then shoots up past 8k, and some times hangs inbetween.

any ideas?

Default RE: tach problem

I would start checking the resistance between the distributor and the tach gauge, I'm not sure if the signal passes through the ECU... it must...

Default RE: tach problem

1979 Accord probably doesnt even have an ECU.

At least by 1998 the tach signal is generated by the ECU. Sometime earlier it was generated by the ignitor. And the early V-6 engines (95-?)it was generated by the coil.
