I have a 98 with 65k miles & 8yrs old. Runs perfect. Should i change the timing belt?
I heard that if it snaps/brakes while driving on freeway that it could damage valves & other parts, is this true?
Basically, what are the consequences on not changing the belt?

you'll need a new head, perfect opportunity to either

A. get some friends together, pull the moter out, get ahold of Denton Import Auto Salvage in Denton, Texas, and pick up a H22A4 for about 600 bucks....drop it in and pull on mustangs/LT1's...

B. get a H23 head and throw it on your F23 bottom end (will require some custum fab onsome parts) but you'll be ready for alot of boost, throw together a turbo kit from a 1g DSM, or get T3/T4 setup and rapemustangs, LT1's, LS1's, and pull and hang with new vettes....

or, C. replace the factory head and have a a boring 140ish whp which unless you can turn some wrenches would be as easy ALMOST as the H series swap

Hehe. By the way, I love my 140ish whp! It's a step up from my old 130hp at the crank. But either way, my 5th and 6th gen both pull harder than my moms 300 HP MDX, most Audi A4s and a W8 Passat, albeit it was the drivers fault and not the cars.

On a more serious note, revving your engine higher streatches the timing belt more and at a faster rate. I made the mistake of applying throttle around a corner while the AT was shifting. Went from 5000 rpms to 2000 rpms and caused the timing belt to jump 3 teeth.
