thick, white caulk on undercarriage of 2009 Accord
I looked under our brand new 2009 Accord today and saw this thick, white caulk on the left rear of the car's undercarriage. Why would they put thick, white caulk here? I don't even know what part of the car this is.
Thanks for any explanation!!

When parts of the structure are spot-welded together, they use that stuff to fill the gaps & reduce noise. But normally it's painted over, so you don't see it as white. This looks like it was done AFTER the car was painted??

Hello Yvonne
in the picture as if it just been done recently...no globs of dirt hanging off of it.

Thanks for replies. We just purchased the car on 7-25-2009. It now has a little over 300 miles. I worry about the question if it's been in an accident but it only had 8 miles when we purchased it. Guess I should haul it into the car dealer and ask what it is.

Thanks for all the replies. My husband called the dealer today about the caulk. The Honda Service Manager said that typically that caulking will be applied near the gas tank to protect the gas tank bladder from dust, dirt, etc. It looks sloppy but if it does the job, I'll be happy!
I love the way the 2009 Accord LX drives. It drives very smoothly. The radio has great sound! My husband decided it was too much car for commuting so it's my car now!! The seats are certainly supportive. It will be interesting to see how comfortable they are on a road trip to Colorado.
