Default Ticking?

Hey my car has been running strange, the check engine light came on and there is a ticking/clicking sound coming from this, (circled in pic.) also the car seems to run a lower idle than usual.

Ok well the ticking stopped but the check engine light is still on, and the power steering and engine/tranny seem to whine when I drive, but it's only noticable in the lower gears.

I would take your car to autozone and have them read the code. Post the code on here (it should be PXXXX) and we can help solve the problem.

I can't tell what you have circled. Others on here will know instantly. I think that the code will point you in the right direction.

Default RE: Ticking?

that's the purge control solenoid and it is supposed to tick on and off rapidly when the computer commands it's operation.

the whining noise i have a feeling is related to a bad transmission. i foresee a code p0700 from autozone(at malfunction) and if their scantool can go into the transmission dtcs i think it will show p0740(tcc malfunction) or p0780 (shift malfunction).

the whining noise could also be power steering related - but.....a p.s. whining noise won't cause a check engine light. so i bet their related. but...as always, start with reading the code then diagnosing it.
