Okay Great so then it would lead towards the 'bottom end'. So see if you can make it 'rattle' going lightly on and off the throttle.
Piston slap cold is not uncommon in that engine.......I'll go check because I think there was a Service News Bulletin about piston slap.

found this March 2000 Service news Article;

Cold Start Knock
To some degree, cold start knock (piston slap) is a
normal characteristic on 4-stroke gasoline engines. It
happens when the engine is cold (piston-to-cylinder
clearance at its greatest, and most of the oil has
drained back into the pan). As the engine warms up,
the knock should quickly diminish, usually within 2
to 3 minutes.

So thats great that you have traced the noise to be louder in the block at the front.
I would try to have the engine warmed up and lightly go on and off the throttle and listen for a rattle type noise, that might lead to a loose rod bearing.

Yeah I think what I am hearing is a bit of piston slap. I went out and removed the spark plug from the no. 1 cyl and shot a few squirts of oil in there. Started her up and the knock was gone. Then about 15-20 seconds later it showed up again. So is this something that is considered normal then for this engine? Is it something I should worry about? Or just keep truckin the way it is?
Thanks guys..

How do you tell the difference between the two if once you remove the s-plug cable it continues clicking?

Thanks

So on YOUR car the noise keeps going? I guess I'd use a poor-man's stethoscope (scrap piece of garden hose) to try & pinpoint the location.

Inside the valve covers? Adjusting valves isn't too hard. But wait... V-6... Do those have valve adjustments or hydraulic lifters???

Hey,

No, the noise only lasts while the car is cold then it goes away. Sometimes the clicking sound can when I turn on the car though most of the time it takes about a minute after the car is started before you begin to hear it. Is there a way to tell whether it is valve adjustments or hydraulics without removing the valve covers? If not I'll have to look into. But before I'll do as you say and have a good listen.

I asked because I ran across a YouTube video of someone demoing an EFI device for testing fuel injectors and the sound from his Honda was similar to mine.

Thanks
