Default Timing Belt Replacement

Hello everyone,

Car info:

2001 Honda Accord LX Sedan 4-cylinder Auto transmission
155,000 miles - (Bought it when it had 129,000 miles)

I'm going to do a Timing Belt Replacement around mid-Year since its long over due. I believe it has the original parts and has not been changed at all.

I'm not an expert when it comes to this topic, but I'd been looking for a complete list of the parts I will need for this service, but I haven't had any luck at all. So I came here for help.

I want to do a COMPLETE replacement to future proof the longevity of my current car. I'm looking to buy every single part OEM and then taking all my parts to an independent mechanic shop.

So far what I know I will need based on my research:

1. Timing Belt
2. Balance Belt
3. Power Steering Belt
4. A/C Alternator Belt
5. Timing Belt Tensioner
6. Balance Belt Tensioner
7. Front Crankshaft Seal
8. Front Camshaft Seal
9. Balance Shaft Seal
10. Balance Seal Retainer
11. Water Pump & Gasket
12. Valve Cover Gasket
13. 4 Spark Plug Seals

Am I missing any other important part for this service ?

Any help is appreciated it. Thanks.

I'm betting it was changed once before. Why? The maintenance interval is 7 years or 105,000, which ever comes first. FWIW, my 2001 is also due this year for its second belt replacement.

I'll be due for a timing belt job this summer. I too am planning to buy all the parts you've listed above (OEM) and take them to my indy. I'm also going to give him 2 gallons of Honda coolant to use. That list is pretty solid but I'd also add timing & balance belt tensioner springs. How is your idler pulley? Since the valve cover will be off for the gasket replacement it's also a good time to have the valves adjusted, if noisy.

What's the condition of your PS, brake and tranny fluids and spark plugs?

I'm inclined to not disturb the crankshaft & camshaft seals if they're not leaking. But you won't get everyone to agree about that.

Valve cover gasket "kit" will probably include the round seals for the spark plug holes, along with the rubber grommets for the hold-down bolts.

I guess I would make sure your mechanic is OK with you bringing in all the parts. Sometimes they don't like that. Sometimes they will not warranty the work unless they supply the parts. Or maybe they'll be happy for you to bring in the parts...

You also forgot #14:
Glossary of all the magic spells you need to get that #*$&^#$*&#^ crankshaft pulley bolt to come loose.

You have a valid point, but since I can't prove it, I won't take that risk.

So I'll add the following:

14. Timing Belt Tensioner Spring
15. Balance Belt Tensioner Spring
16. Get Valves Adjusted if noisy
17. 2 gallons of Honda Coolant

Idler Pulley is quiet, seems fine. Still change it for the sake of maintenance?
I haven't changed the Power Steering Fluid and Brake Fluid since I bought the car.
I change the transmission fluid once every year (3 quarts).
I installed new spark plugs when I bought the car (129,000 miles). Spark plugs are still in good condition.

Um, I see. I'll take that into consideration.

I think my mechanic should be OK with it. I'd taken my own parts before in the past. But I'll ask him to confirm just in case.
