Default Timing Belt Tips

I have a 1997 Accord V6 LX Automatic and am about to replace the timing belt and water pump myself with this Gates kit that I bought.

Are there any tips out there for this specific job dealing with the v6?
I know there is ton of info on the 4 banger, but with the v6, information is limited, and even then, there's always, always something thats "tricky".

Any "Heads up" would be appreciated.

Get a shop manual for your vehicle. Check automanualsource.com for an inexpensive download.

Check youtube videos. Here a couple of good ones, but there are quite a few:

good luck

Just me and I've said this more than once. Before removing the old belt make some marks on the old one.

In your case - a mark on the belt from the belt to each cam gear. A mark on the crank gear to where the belt mates to the gear. Note the marks on the belt (cam 1, cam 2 and crank).

Once you pull the old belt transfer the marks from the old belt to the new one - count the number of teeth and note whcih mark it is (cam 1, cam 2 and crank).

When you install the new belt, be sure the marks on the belt match/mate to the marks on the gears.

O'Reilly (Checker/Kragen) auto parts stores in my area loan them out for free. They're called "Honda crankshaft pulley tool" or some such.
