Default Tranny help

Greetings,

My car is a 99 DX 4-door auto. 2.3L non-VTEC, manual everything with a/c.

A couple of times now, I go to put the car in Neutral and it goes straight into R. It is supposed to stop at N and be locked out from going all the way through but it has down it twice now, while the car was moving or coming to a stop.

I am going in to the dealer for the ignition switch recall soon but is this related or separate issue that they will charge me for? BTW, I bought the car a week ago and it has about 100K on it.

Well one of those recalls has to do with the shift interlock.
Ithink the symptom is being able to remove the key without having the trans in park.
You can mention the problem to the Service Advisor and see if they want to charge you or not..You can always decline.
On the other hand the trans control unit won't let reverse engage when you are rolling foward at certain speeds.

The simple answer is let the car come to a complete stop before you touch the gearshift lever.

I have a habit of shifting to N everytime I come to a stop. I do not even remember where that came from. I was also testing things in the old girl to see what needs my attention. I am glad I found the recall and I hope that the N to R business can get sorted out at the same time.
