Thanks for all your help guys.
Turns out it was a faulty solenoid A. It was an intermittent problem as described. I bought one at a wrecking yard for 50 bucks and she's fixed.
I hate intermittent problems.
The parts guy at the dealer, and the wrecking yard, said the part either works or doesn't. Well they were wrong!
