Default turning car off

Didn't know where to post I have a 1993 Honda Accord the key will go in and turn the car on but it wont turn back to turn the car off. I've had to resort to pulling off the battery cable. Any suggestions? It happened just suddenly never had a problem at all before.

It may be the key cylinder; but, is the car in Park? If it is in Park, can you shift out of Park?

Let me know.

If it's an auto, does the shift position indicator show correct gear position? If shift position switch stays in gear, key can't be withdrawn. I believe it can only be withdrawn in P position.

good luck

Sometimes it can be a problem with the shift position console switch if the key can't be removed, the shifter is stuck in Park, and the "P" light on the shift indicator doesn't work.

If that is the case, you can remove the center dash console and try jumping with a wire, terminals 8 and 11 of the connector for the shift position switch. (See attached pic.) If it works by jumping the terminals, the shift position console switch may need to be replaced.

For removal of center dash console, see step 1 and 2 in this link:

I don't think the shift-position interlock will prevent you from turning off the engine. It's job is to prevent you from pulling the key OUT after switching the engine off.

I guess I should've said that my first thought was the lock-cylinder binding up, which was already suggested.
