If you're not going to tackle it yourself, and trust me if it wasn't my 66 chevy I would be very worried about doing it myself. I would end up trying just cause I can't afford to pay someone else. I would look for a repair place that specializes in Honda/Acura. Tell them what you know on the front side(!) and see what they say from there. Yes it maybe be running fine now, but it is a matter of time. Hope for the best, that you caught it before any major damage was done.

Looking at the thrust bearing I can’t figure out how it is held in. I am used to the ones where the thrust bearing is just a main bearing with sides.

there are grooves on the main bearing cap or the block to hold the thrust washer in place

Kris,

Are you asking for a photo of the crank thrust washer or the bearing cap??

Desert Honda - do you think this repair requires the removal of the engine or can such repair be done from under the car?

Thanks,

Anthony

Looking at the photo I can’t see how one of the Thrust bearing could come out.

Quick update here -

I took the car to an engine shop last Monday. The mechanic said that the motor had to come out, turned upside down, and dissassembled. More than likely the crank will need to be reground, bearings replaced, etc, etc. Est. cost is ~$1,400. I'm extremely dissappointed with my Accord at this point. Unacceptable for a car that has 106k miles on it.

Anyway, I'll post another update once I hear back from the shop.

Anthony
