i have an 87 and im tryna out a new exhaust on it and a cool air intake and i dont know the first place to start i was wondering if someone could help me

no i am about to buy a new exhaust and i was thinking about getting a cherry bomb or something but i dont know wheres the first place to start like i look i believe my car exhuast now is whelled and im not sure what to do

 

what does "whelled" mean?

 

perhaps "welded"?
