I haven't tried it, but I definitely think it would be possible. It would just be a much bigger PITA than to buy an inexpensive floor jack.

I've done it on more than one occasion. Usually what I do (when a floor jack isn't available) is to block the tires that will still be on the ground, set the e-brake, put the car in gear, then jack up the car and place my stand under one side, jack up the other side and place the stand then release the pressure off the stand by just a little bit and leave the jack still touching the lifting point on the car so if something happens it's an extra failsafe.

I've done it. It's just not as safe. Also, the scissor jack won't go as high as a floor jack which can add to your aggrivation (re-jacking back and forth adding wood is VERY dangerous, but I've had to do that also -- floor jack lost its seal).

SN, you prefer to put the weight on the jack as opposed to the stand? The jack stand should be able to withstand a lot more weight than the jack. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding you.

It must not have been that clear... I use the jack stand to support the weight of the vehicle but I leave the jack so it's still just barely touching the car (not supporting anything) so if a stand gives out or the car rocks/tips you should still be safe since the jack is still in a raised position...

But no I don't put more weight on the jack than on the stand. good catch though, that's a good thing to clarify

Just be careful&watch what you're doing. You must not create a situation where some part of the load is carried by the jack, making the jackSTAND more prone to topple.

so it means that there are really two jack points, one for scissor jack and other for the jack stand otherwise it's not possible to raise the car on the scissor jack and place the jack stand, i do see a spot just beside the point where i used the scissor jack not sure if the one is the other spot (2002 accord LX)

There are a lot of points under the car that you can support it from. The best place depends on your task. Most things that look well supported are. Be careful and make sure that the car is well balanced, not bumped and supported evenly. Also, the car should have the emergency brake set and either be in gear (manual) or park (auto).

SN: I figured that was what you meant, but it just didn't read right. If a stand gives out, it's most likely that it tipped over. In this case, I would expect the jack to tip as well. I do the same thing, but for a different reason. I leave the jack in place with tension transfered to the stand so that I don't have to crank the jack down only to raise it later to lower the car. I do it mostly out of laziness!!! LOL ..... but I guess there is a bit of added safety.
