Valve Lash Adjustment Problem

Default Valve Lash Adjustment Problem

ok ihave a 1993 honda accord special edition 2.2 motor automatic i out anothe cam-timeing belt in the timeing is right the problem is it sayes to set the valve lash on the ex on 30 and the intake on 26 when i do my valves rattle bad so i ran them all all the way down and backed them off some so they will have a little space and guess what THEY DONT RATTLE but it does have a little bit of a rough idol any suggestions whats up thanks

Please note, if you don't adjust them to spec, then you run the risk of burning your valves.

I would adjust to specs. As valve train/engine warms you will be too tight and exhaust valves will leak/burn leading to cylinder head overhaul.

Are you adjusting to mm or mils? If mils your tolerances are wrong. Adjustment is 0.26 +/- 0.02 mm (10+/- 1 mils) on intake and 0.30mm (12+/-1 mils).

hey texas i have a gage that starts at .008 and goes to .026 so on the ex i have to put .010 and .020 together to make .030 on the bottom of the numbers like.010 there are numbers like .254 why when i sent them to the correct settings they rattle but not the other way Thanks for all your help and others too any suggestions

Like TH said, if you're using the top numbers, should be .009 to .010 for the intakes and .011 to .012 for the exhaust, not .030 (too much).

Thank yall so much yes i am useing the top numbers .030 ex and .026 intake again thanks so much thats why they were rattiling at .030 ex and .026 intake they were to much thanks you guys on the one that sayes 0.26 under that it has .660 thanks again
