Default VTEC Solenoid leaking on 98 LX, 4 cylinder, 4 speed

I just had my transmission rebuilt. They said everything looks good but the VTEC (variable valve timing electronic control) solenoid is leaking and it is going to get worse over time. They said i can only get the part from Honda and it costs about $168 + $65 for labor. Does this sound right? I saw some guy on YouTube replace the part with a $30 recycled part and only took about 10 minutes. He said a new part from Honda would only cost about $90. Appreciate any feedback.

If you plan to replace just the rubber seal/screen of the solenoid it is about 10-15 dollars. Check tasauto, last time i checked the gasket was just about $10.

Goodluck
