Working on a 98 with 226k. I've owned it for 2 years. Decided to finally change the transmission fluid and this is what I find. It looks like someone broke a ratchet off in it?
I used a vacuum operated oil extractor on my 2001 transmission; basically you suction the ATF out of the transmission from the top, and the best part is no need to get under the car.
Great idea. Thanks.
I would like to get that bolt off eventually to clean the magnet. Any ideas there?
LOL, yeah, but you might not like it...
Back in 2014 I was helping my son move from NAS Pensacola to NAS Lemore and once we got on the road I took a good look at the tires on his car, yeah, time for new skins compliments of Dad. We pulled into a small town in Alabama or Mississippi and found a tire shop which had a set of tires which would fit his car (an old NA Miata). Apparently the previous tire shop had been none too gentle with the lug nuts and try as they might, there was no way one of them was coming off with the tools they had in their shop. I did a quick search and found a shop of a different sort nearby and had this "modification" made to the offending lug nut:
Maybe see if you can get the broken socket to move? Maybe try to get a screwdriver between that top piece and the drain bolt to pop it out? You could try drilling into the socket part and tapping it. Then use a long bolt through a socket and a washer to make a slide hammer.
An easier option it to try and remove the bolt with vice grips, then buy a replacement bolt.
