Default What do wheel bearings have to do with the brakes?

1990 accord ex. My brake pedal was going to the floor when I made sharp turns. I replaced the master and bled the system with no change. My mechanic looked at the car and stated that the wheel bearings were shot and that they were causing my brake issues. What do wheel bearings have to do with the brakes?

Absolutely nothing to my knowledge.

They keep the rotors in line with the calipers.
If the bearings are bad, the rotor can lean away from the caliper piston on hard corners, allowing it to extend farther than normal.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. (unless someone else comes along with a better story...)

Your right, but there has to be alot of play in the bearing/s. They'll push the brake pads apart causing the caliper piston to need to move farther to get the pads touching the rotor again. The times i've seen it happen were caused by loose axle nuts.
