Default When do I need to replace water pump?

I've got an '07 2.4l with 132,000 miles and was wondering when I needed to replace the water pump? I'm not having any issues but know it will need to be done at some point, just not ready for a $400 bill.

You don't necessarily need to change the water pump unless there was a problem.

Changing the water pump every 100-120K is good preventative maintenance. For the 4 cylinder, dealer and most shops will still charge about 2-3 hours labor, as the power steering pump is moved or removed, drive belt tensioner removed, and then water pump removed.

I had my water pump go out at 125k on my 8th generation Accord, luckily, it wasn't at too an inopportune time.

Many water pumps may go a lot longer without issue.

You can check the drain whole at the bottom of the pump to see if there is any coolant, either wet or dry. If there is then the seal is failing and it needs to be replaced. If there is bearing noise then it should be replaced. If the hole is free of any sign of coolant and there is no issue with the bearing then you should be fine for a while, just keep an eye on those two items and replace as soon as either one of those conditions show up.
