Default White residue around fuel line (?)

Someone looking the car over today pointed out this white residue around the fuel line (?), claiming I have a gas leak. I certainly haven't noticed any problems.

The car has 69K miles, purchased new in 2000. Nothing other than scheduled maintenance has been done.

This is in the rear right area of the engine.

Searched here and on google and didn't find anything - any ideas what this is and whether or not it's normal?

Thanks.

To me, that looks like external corrosion (not to worry about) more than a fuel leak. But there's no substitute for seeing it first-hand.

Looks like aluminum oxidation from somewhere but thats just a wild guess does it smell if you put your head in there after driving?

When brass is mated to aluminum, you get a dissimilar metal corrosion. I've seen it cause a leak on brass expansion valve mated to aluminum evaporator.

I don't think you have a problem, but suggested sniff test should tell.

good luck
