Do cheap SRIs or CAIs lead to failing catalytic converter??

for some reason everytime i drove a honda and got it up past 4 grand it ran much better like it free's things up a bit or something. but i know in my last prelude my vtec was very very picky with how much and what kind of oil i put in it. that was an h22 though
