heat shield?

Default heat shield?

do the really actually help a short ram intake? i read they are just for looks and really dont have an advantage over not having one. whats the story behind this? thanks for the help.

uhh it depends where ur air filter is located if its by something hot then yes because it will keep the air cooler as its coming in.but if its behide a battery in its own corner then ya itll be just for show.

I knew it! so the battery acts like the heat sheild because mine will be located behind my battery down in its own corner away from the engine thank you very much for your help.

No no no....

There really isn't such thing as a heat shield for intakes. Yes the battery MAY block some warm air from entering the filter but when @ a stop light it wont do anything.

What you want is exhaust heat wrap or a thermal wrap. In order to be effective you have to wrap the entire intake tube in it. Reason being is that the intake is metal so it absorbs heat and heats the air inside. the wrap will prevent the intake from getting hot so the air stays cool.
