Default J Pipes, Downpipes, Test pipes!!!

What can I expect from these?
how do they differ and will they change the sound any?
from what I understand, they are just different bends in piping...
but I'm not sure...
any idea how much these will run me..
say I want a 2.5 inch?

J-pipe & downpipe I think are different names for the same thing, the pipe that starts at the intake manifold & goes under the oil pan. Honda actually calls it the A-pipe. What it does depends on exactly what you buy. Generally it's included when you buy a header.

Test pipe is an empty pipe that you put in place of the catalytic converter, if you want your CEL to be on all the time & you want to fail smog checks.

only the test pipe will give you any hp, and it will probly only be around 5 hp. and you will fail your smog testing, kill the environment, and your cel will be on all the time if your car has an o2 sensor after the cat

Being a 1997, his car DOES have the secondary O2 sensor.

Well yeah... but I've removed my 02 sensors and my CEL is always on. I'm in Texas so I don't have smog tests and not sure when I will... I live in a pretty rural area so I'm not so sure how quickly we will catch on to the smog testing. The only thing required where I live is a muffler... not even a cat... but a cat does count as a muffler.

Technically, the converter, both O2 sensors, & the full OBD-2 setup is required by federal EPA. EVERYWHERE in the US. The only difference is whether anyone bothers to check your car. If some cop really wanted to be a ++++, then he could use this as an excuse to ticket you.
