klrspz: yeah, its fine...i was just lookin out!

Falkore: wow, you actually came up with a definition of what the L stands for even though the actual poster meant to put an "i" like i suggested. rofl. you really know your stuff! i just looked down at the keyboard (and saw that the i and l are close to each other) and figured he meant to say i4, haha.

OK So I'm finding people suggest to clear the ECU by merely unplugging it while I work..

However, this sticky is showing I need to use a tool?
https://www.hondaaccordforum.com/HOW...m_32998/tm.htm

Which is it? Unplug, or find an AutoZone that has this tool?

i would use the tool. when i installed my CAI, the shop that did it for me had the scanner tool and they were gonna use it but it was broken...my CEL ended up goin off after about my fourth or fifth start up after the install. but i would get the tool or find a shop that has one and ask if they will do it for free.

Well I went looking last night... and I got the same answer from 6 different places .... Basically, they said they can't clear codes unless they've done manual work on the vehicle, otherwise it's illegal. Some of the guys' reasoning was that if i were trying to pass inspection, I could just clear it possibly long enough to pass and still have a faulty car.

I might have found someone that is supposedly willing to do it, but I might have to slip him some cash.

@accords own
BTW, What did you end up doing? You mention that it was broken, and you still had the CEL triggered.

One last quick question, is it normal for the CEL to be on the first 5-10 seconds your car is on? It flashes for a few seconds and then goes off... I wasn't sure if this was everything initializing, or if maybe a sensor could be going bad or what not and it finally got to a readable state. I could just be paranoid!

Auto Zone clears your ECU for free.

Well like i was saying, i checked out a few places, some of those were local AutoZones, and all 3 said that it was illegal...

Might be just a TX thing? Either way, I think I found a solution.

A mechanic at Honda told me I can just pull the battery for 30min-1hr and it'll clear itself, but won't reset... I didn't bother asking exactly what that meant, but I had an idea that it would "relearn" what it needed, but wouldn't default anything?

not sure.
