I'm thinking a swap is pretty unlikely. Why? If I'm not mistaken, the four-banger has the engine on the left of the engine bay and the V6 is on the right side of the bay. Said another way, the two are so vastly different I'm thinking the only way to get the VIN to disagree would be if two different cars were cut in half and welded together (a fairly common thing; take a car which has been rear-ended and a second that has front end damage, and make one good car out of them).

I had a similar issue on a different model vehicle and it turned out to be nothing but a throttle position sensor. The issue even went as far as causing a fire in the throttle body. I hope this helps restore SOME of your faith in your accord.
got the codes... cylinder 1 and 2 misfires... and a emissions code...

The dealer sold it to me as a v6... just checked the vin number on honda owners and it says it was a 4 cyl. No didnt check the car fax... have heard bad things about car fax especially lately.

If the paperwork from the dealer shows a "V6" and the engine and VIN say 4-Cylinder, then you have recourse against the dealer. Might be time to talk to a lawyer or at least the BBB.
