Default Just need a few tips

Hey im not too new to the honda scene, ive got a 1995 civic ex with a B16 thats been dropped 2 inches with an intake and full exhaust, and have owned my accord for a almost a year now. I really dont know squat about the F22 engines. The tag on it says F22B1. Now one of my buddies said that the f motors are dual cam with one gear instead of 2 i dont know if he doesnt know what hes talking about or not so i just need basic info about it. The motor is totally stock, and i have short ram and exhaust on its way for it. What else can i do? Is there such a thing as building a cheaper but good turbo setup for it?

Hey, nice to have you here.

The F22B1 is a single cam VTEC engine. I dont know what your buddy is dreaming about, but its just one cam. Honda did make an F22B that was DOHC, but that was in Japanese Preludes for a while, never came in any USDM Accords, thats for sure.

A cheaper turbo is definitely a "can do." You can get a kit as low as like $1800, or you could maybe piece one together yourself for less. You dont have to blow $4000 on a turbo kit, there are less expensive options out there. TAS Auto has a few different kits, check them out. Also, search the forums, there is a thread that lists everything you need to build your own turbo.

Thanks alot. I kinda figured he was full of it. Do you think it would be better to put a turbo on a stock F22 or just do a swap?

You can turbo a stock F22, its a pretty strong motor. Just keep the boost at 6-8 psi. If you want to go higher, rebuild it first to make sure you can handle it. F22s are better than H22s for turbo applications, because they already have a lower (ideal) compression, while the H22 has a pretty high compression, and would need new low compression pistons to really work with a turbo.

What would the f22 need as far as making it lower compression? pistons, rings?

F22 doesnt need lower compression for a turbo. Its good to go. 9.2:1 compression is pretty good, it would be better if it was 8.5, but its good enough. You can definitely run turbo with that.

Whoa, I didn't realize the F22 was a good motor to turbo...I guess I assumed the SOHC motors were a waste of time! I have the F22A6 so there's no VTEC at all, is it still good to go for a turbo? Even with 125k miles???
