Default New to Accord, VIN # question

Trying to put an engine in my 2007 Accord LX. My research shows 2006-2007 accord should have same engines (K24A8). On Ebay they keep mentioning the sixth vin number. Someone please explain this sixth vin number thing to and it's importance. Also is it sixth from the front or back? Thanks!

I cannot offer you any specifics regarding which byte equates to which engine, but if I recall correctly, there were only two engines available for the 2006-2007 Accords; the I4 (which you have) and the V6. The sixth byte of the VIN (from the left) should identify which of the two engines you have.

Shipo, you are correct. In my search for a new donor engine I have come across several I4's that are from the same year(s) 2006-2007. But they have different sixth VIN number. I wish it was as simple as all sixth vin number 7 from 2006-2007 accord are I4. But that has not been the case. And it's made my buying with confidence very shaky. I wish I could get an explanation and a better understanding. Especially considering everyone asks for that number on ebay.

Top of the Gen.Tech forum is a post with a VIN decoder. See if that gives you any help?
(for all I know it'll just say 2.4 liter 4-cyl when you really want it to tell you K24Ann)

You can also look at the engine-serial-number stamped into the block. First line is the type (for example K24A8).
