Default New to Honda

Hello all newbie here I just bought my wife a 07 Civic ex coup and its time for me to get myself 1, my lease is almost up on my F150 and I'm looking for something different. I'm thinking used and I have about 7k. I want something with potential I like the 2 door 97-00 accord V6's but how are they to mod? And I've always liked the old crx's. Now as I've been browsing the boards I have noticed alot of different number codes could someone tell me the difference or point me in the right direction? I'm no newbie to going fast I've owned a mustang cobra R and most recently (sold last summer) a 04 Mustang Mach 1 which put me into the 10's for the first time. My wife told me no more stangs and she thinks Hondas' are sensible cars, now I need help to exploit that. Thanks Eric

hey if i knew how to maintain cars i would get some stangs cause they need some tlc. your wife is right the accord is a practical daily driver, and its also fast from the stock (v6). the guys in here really know how to mod their cars. maybe you should contact falklore (guy in this forum) who has done some ridiculous mods on his car.

LOL ... IDK how rediculous my mods are, but if you want to make an Accord really fast, stay away from the 6th gen V6. The engine is sick and can take some serious boost, however it will kill the tranny. The 7th gen accords get an upgrade in the VTEC control over the 6th gen that gives them 40 more HP and a lot of low-end torque ..... and it's available in a 6 speed.

For 7 grand, I'm all for your other idea ...... get a 1990 CRX si for $1500, sell the motor in it, build a turbo B18 with all forged internals, carbon fiber everything you can and then you have a 400HP honda that will do high 11's to low 12's at the track and will still get you about 24 MPG.

The 97 V6 has virtually NO mods. the 98-02 V6 has plenty, but the transmissions sucked the big one. You got a 50/50 shot that the auto trans in a 98-02 V6 or 4cyl Accord will go out on you.
My advice:
You won't really ever go fast in an Accord unless you drop some serious dough. I grew up driving mustangs too. I despise automatic transmissions. If you want a fun, zippy little car that gets awesome gas mileage: buy a 98-02 4cyl accord with a manual trans. Mine is a blast to drive. it has 126k miles on it and the engine is still smooth as silk. I still getbetween 28 & 30 mpg city driving. i can get up to 35 mpg on the highway. When I fill up after the low fuel light comes on, the tank usually only fits about 14 gallons and I can easilygo 400 miles before the low fuel light comes on again.
For $7k you should not have a problem buying one. Although you may have to search a while to find a manual trans Accord since they didn't make a whole lot of them compared to the Automatics. I had to search for mine for about 6 months. For my 2000 LX: I bought it with 104k miles on it. I paid $6k cash (taxes and all.) My tag only cost me about $50 (this only applies if you live in a state where car tag prices vary.)
Keep in mind: the timing belt, seals, h2o pump, and drive belts should all be changed around 105k miles or every 7 years, whichever comes first. You should be able to find a shop who will do that for $600 or so. Unless you can do it yourself - then the parts will probably cost you about $200 for genuine Honda parts. Be prepared forthe jobto take all day long.
