. Hi Friends
I have owned a Dodge Dakota for 15 years, but it now has 300k miles and decided I needed a spare or road car. I found a guy selling a poorly neglected 2000 Accord LX with a V6. It only has 158k miles, automatic. I had been hit in the left front, then parked, under a tree with the passenger window about halfway down...Finally someone bought it and got the damage, (poorly) fixed and then the whole car got a cheap enamel paint job. I got the car for $900 and it has become my mission to recover the car. In the last two months I have:
Replaced timing belt and ALL hardware inside
replaced all hoses, and thermostat
removed the intake, EGR passages were completely blocked. Used TEN cans of carb cleaner on the intake, throttle body, and EGR passage-replaced EGR-resolved CIL.
replaced the windshield wiper transmission
repaired the windshield washers
installed a radiator overflow tank, (there was none)
repaired the air filter box, and installed a K&N filter into the stock box
repaired broken headlight connectors and put all new bulbs in all four corners
installed an fender inner liner on driver's side-it was missing
new radiator cap-had original
replaced all spark plugs-had originals, (how did it even run)
replaced leaking PS pump and pressure hose.
replaced all four brake lines with stainless
replaced all four brake rotors with slotted/drilled
replaced all brake pads with ceramics
one brake caliper was frozen
replaced all lug nuts
replaced spare with full size/fresh new tire
replaced several burned out cluster bulbs
replaced entire exhaust from the cat with a DNA stainless system
triple changed the trans fluid
removed the lawnmower, yes lawnmower, oil filter with K&N and Mobil One
Installed Fumoto oil drain valve
repaired overhead dome panel as someone tried to pry off the panel to change a bulb and snapped the panel mounts
installed a Kenwood radio with XM
repaired driver's door speaker
repaired driver's side rear speaker
Installed Ambrella mini dash cam
Installed 7" screen back up camera
had all windows tinted with the darkest stuff made
Replaced all four tires with Yokohamas
Replaced the cabin filters-If you have not done this, I suggest you will find that the A/C will improve dramatically-mine were completely clogged
cleaned, and cleaned, and cleaned-still cleaning
and even more stuff
have that stupid SRS light-code 93, will not clear-prob gotta remove the SRS module.
I just ordered new headlights and will install HIDs and
those crazy looking instrument clusters overlays
I must say, the LX has responded well to the love. It has gone from 18 mpg to 31 and runs like a sports car. I have actually owned a Ferrari, a Jag, and a Vette and this exhaust makes this V6 sound just like a Ferrari. It is a blast to drive. I plan to have it repainted soon. I feel Like Ed China on Wheeler Dealers- on Velocity TV.
I have some other things to do, but am enjoying saving this one-what a shame the way some people treat a machine-they will last and last with a bit of care. This car will scream and will stop on a dime. It purrs effortlessly at idle, (gotta get ALL the air out of the cooling system).
These are very well built cars and now I have it where it is a joy to drive.
I have bumped into a deer, (live in a very rural area), so now will replace the right fender-lol-BUT if I didn't have those great brakes, it would have destroyed the car and the deer.
Anyway-happy to be in the forum, maybe I can pass along what I have earned.
