Default How bad did I get ripped?

So I have a 1999 Honda Accord that had some power loss issues. While accelerating (Mainly in 1-2-3 gears, never got it to 3-4) the transmission would disengage and the engine RPMs would keep rising but there'd be no load on the engine. Basically as if we put it into neutral as we were going, then putting it back into drive. It'd slam back into gear, the car would jerk and it'd make any car guy cringe. This wasn't heavy acceleration. Not even close. It wasn't having this issue one day, the next day it was and it got bad real fast within 2-3 days until it finally threw a check engine light. We took it in to a tranny specialist shop. They checked the code and said it was a code regarding the transmission slipping. It was a $3000 repair that we somehow paid for. They said it would take 3 days. It took 12 and we couldn't afford a rental so we had to juggle a friends car which was not fun. (They said they'd provide a rental but never came through on that, just said they'd call us back over and over.) We finally get the car back, sit it the seat and it felt like a broken recliner, somehow they snapped one of the arms that held the seat to the floor. They said they'd fix it after I made it clear that it was broken while in their care. When we went to take it back to them to fix. (I didn't drive it home from them, my mother in law who owns the vehicle did) it did the same thing it was doing before the rebuild. (This was on a cold start 2c) only it didn't make it a block before we turned it around and called them. They sent up a tow truck and are now telling me that they think it's actually a solenoid issue. They said it needed a transmission based on their diagnosis and test drive.

So, was a screwed out of $3000 on something that will most likely not even go over $600 to repair?

Wow...sorry to hear about your ordeal. My Honda Service issues were a lot less costly but in the end, I'm never going back to Honda. Not sure where you're at but in the Torrance and Gardena CA area, I've had issues of work they said was done but wasn't, and in nearly every case, my car is more dirtier than when I took it in. I got rid of my Accord and got a 2016 Ford Fusion Plug in. Night and day difference in the car and people. I hope your problem eventually worked out better than it started.

I had a Toyota Matrix with a manual that I had to replace the transmission. I cost $3,000. Took almost two weeks. Waiting for parts.

We had a '99 Dodge Caravan that had a transmission repair that parts and labor was under $100. Hopefully you needed the big repair, not a $100 sensor.
