New accord or fix tranny?
Well my the tranny on my dad's 01 accord is on its way out for the second time. First one died after 50k miles and this one has lasted for over 110k miles now. Funny thing was that the starter died the same day the tranny started slipping going up a steep hill. Also noticed a weird noise at idle so brought it in and the mechanic thinks it's the torque converter. Probably gona cost at least $1.5k to fix it. Car has 165k miles on it so he might just sell it and get a new car. How hard will it be to sell a car with a bad tranny? Should he fix it before he sells it? BTW, there is no trouble code yet. Should he fix it and hope that the lame 98-02 tranny won't fail again? Also has there been any known issues with the 2008/2009 accord yet?
BTW got the starter to work a couple of times by hitting it with a wrench. Mechanic told his about it and how it should release the spring in a bad starter. Has anyone else ever tried this technique on their bad starter?

I sold my '98 accord V6 with a bad tranny for $3000.I was lucky, and you may not be.You may not see more than $2k from a private buyer, and about $600 give or take from the dealer.
Good luck

Ouch! If that is the case then he's better of fixing the tranny. The car is pretty much flawless besides the tranny and high mileage. Oh and it's a 01 accorld LX sedan 4cyl. He was thinking it could have easily gone for $6k with a good tranny.
I'm not sure how the market is where you are, but you can get an 03-05 with those miles for around $6k. I'd imagine selling a 6th gen even with a "good" tranny wouldn't be too easy. Unless people still don't know about the autotragic....
I've seen 01 n 02 LX go for $8-10k with around 100k miles in my area. $4k as a trade in with a bad tranny might not be too bad. Only problem with trade in is that you can get 1-2k more selling them privately. But then again a car with a bad tranny will be hard to sell. He still has to take it in to see how much it will cost to fix and if Honda will pay a part of the repair.
In my case, I didn't have a place to store a dead car, needed a working car and didn't work in the same state, so finding time to sell privately didn't really work as an option. Also, the car was too big for me ..... it could only handle 0.9-0.95 g's
If it doesnt even move the tranny is so bad its going to be real hard to sell for any amount of money. If it just slips a little from time to time it wouldn't be that hard. 1.5k for a new tranny sounds absurd. find a used one for $300 and install it yourself.
The car drives fine right now other than the bad starter which is getting fix today if the part is in stock. Hasn't even given off an error code and only noticed the slight slipping up a steep hill while accelerating at 70mph. $1.5k would be to fix it at the honda dealer. How much should it cost for labor to replace a tranny or do a manual swap?
