Default New (to me) Honda!!

Have been looking around for what feels like 6 weeks, seen a lot of crap and not many good ones....then, I found a great one, and now its mine!

2000 Accord EX-L 5spd 136,000 miles. very clean, genuine car. Ridiculously clean under the hood, drives beautifully, great leather interior and all of the EX extras...im very happy to find this manual trans version. I had told myself that I was done with shifting gears and moved over to looking at Civics....until I saw this. The clutch is light and the shift is sweet, gonna put some Amsoil in the trans, put some new Honda Pwr. St fluid in and change to a nice fully synth engine oil very soon, havent decided which, prob be Amsoil too.

Only down side is that I have no documented proof that it has ever had the timing belt changed so that is my priority!

Welcome. Good choice on sticking with the manual as the automatics had a fair share of issues.

i would hope that ur timing belt has been taken care of already, they are normally due at 80-100k. sounds like u got a good find though, if u have time then take a look at the belt by removing the cover. if its not dry rotted or oil on it etc then you should be good 2 go.

* i bought my accord at 105k and have no idea if my timing belt was ever changed nor any documents either. currently at 133k and still seems fine, if anything the pulleys are starting to go

are you saying that a simple visual evaluation would satisfy? seems kinds risky to me, I was gonna just go ahead and change it.

why would there be oil on it?
sounds like you need to change yours?

I would absolutely not trust a visual exam.

If the visual exam shows the belt is beginning to crack, then absolutely replace it right away. If the visual exam shows it looks OK then it might be anywhere from 2 weeks to a couple years before it breaks.
