Well my xbox just bought the farm. Its like 4 years old and for the past couple months has had alot of problems, first the disc tray wouldnt open, then it kept confusing games for dvds, then when you shut it off you got the red rings. Now when you turn it on you immediately get the red rings.
Its got some shotgun slugs coming its way real soon.

I would think my 360 has to be at least 3 years old. If I mess around with it for long enough I can get it to work. I think the disc drive is the problem, my friend is going to take a look at it.

The new 360s that are coming out now have a 45nm GPU and a 65nm CPU drastically reducing the heat and are believed to be the first reliable batch of 360s. They have only been out in the wild for about a month now. I have two launch 360s one is dead and the other is going strong. Ive upgraded the cooling and brought the temps down to 115f, stock hovers between 130f and 140f. If you can"t get it fixed just blast it to hell and get a new arcade for $200, mod it and never buy a game again.
EDIT: The launch 360s had a 90nm GPU and CPU and drew 16 amps, the new one (JASPER) has a 45nm GPU and a 65nm CPU and draw 12 amps. The amount of current is directly related to the amount of heat produced with processors. Also the launch 360s had a problem with the case flexing the motherboards, and mircosofts bad investing in a horrible BGA factory. They have fixed those two problems, and now it seems heat is going to be less of a problem now as well.
