Default Struts getting soft with age.

My car's ride seems to be getting soft. I know I have the Blizzak winter tires on right now, and I will be changing back to summer tires in a month, But riding at high-way speeds (75-80mph) the car seems to float a lot, and in one section where there is a couple of wide curves I seem to be getting some dive/understeer at 75mph
I know at 147000 miles I am probably ready for a set of struts and a 4 wheel alignment. But my mechanic will only install a quick-strut assembly to save labor. I don't think that the Monroe parts that he can get will be much of an improvement over the stock worn OE suspension parts.
I am looking for a firmer ride that will take the highway speeds without wavering.
Should I seek out a shop that will replace the struts only with a more performance model? and just replace the struts and leave the OE springs?
Suggestions?

find someone else to do the job. It only takes a extra 3min per strut to compress the spring. All the other steps are the same.

Wait until you take off the Blizzaks. They're great in deep snow, but I always found them to be very mushy on dry roads. Then find someone willing to install what you want.
