Just curious as to whether anyone has went with a little taller tire on their Accord.

I am running the stockers now @ 215/60r16 and am thinking of going up to a 215/65r16 to get a little better ride. I know they'll fit the rim, but wondering if they'll fit in the fenderwell. I'm not lowered, and don't plan on it... just looking for a little better ride.

 

A few comments:

• There will be little if any measurable improvement in the ride
• There will be a small reduction in the handling of the car
• The speedometer and odometer will both register low

 

I understand the speedometer issue and the handling. Is the ride improvement really that minor?

Also, are the speedometer readings not adjustable with a tuner?

This is the first Honda I've owned, so I'm very new to the Honda world...

 

The ride improvement will be virtually unnoticeable. Think about it this way, the sidewalls on your 215/60 R16 tires are already over 5" tall; in my experience, diameter increases beyond the 4.5"-5.0" range do nothing for ride comfort. Said another way, adding another (almost) half of an inch in sidewall height will just make the car feel sloppy.

 

Yeah, I know that the sidewall height will make it "roll" more... but I thought it might help the ride quality too. Coming from the GM world, I'm not used to the stiffer ride, but it's not bad. Just need to work out this lumbar issue...

I'm running 285/70/17 on my Tahoe (stock size is 265/70/17) and I like the feel of the bigger tire. But I also understand this is an apples to oranges comparison...a 6000lb SUV vs a 3000lb sedan.

Guess I was just curious. I may try some different tires. These are Cooper Lifeliners that are on it now. I have some Cooper AT tires on my Tahoe and they're great, but I don't know much about their car lineup. I may look at some Michelins and see what I come up with there... I've never ran a Cooper car tire, usually been Michelin, BF or Goodyear on my cars.
