Default 2011 Accord, would like to add USB/iPod integration

Hi -

I have a 2011 Accord SE, without USB port. I would love to be able to control my iPod's songs through the car's steering wheel control. I currently listen to my music via the auxiliary input and control the iPod manually.

The guy at Best Buy suggested
a device called iSimple that can be installed, but that would allow minimal control from my steering wheel (next song, prior song, and 5 presets). While I am driving, I would like to be able to maneuver songs/album/artists from the car's audio. Other models of iSimple do this, but because my car does not have a Satellite button, this is my only option.

He said he can pull the factory audio system and put an after-market system in. But, he is not sure of how much control I'd have from the steering wheel and won't know until he puts the device in. I'd rather know beforehand exactly what I'm paying for.

My local Honda parts dept said Honda "will not support any audio system that did not come with your vehicle". I was surprised, considering I'd be willing to pay for the audio system that come with the upgraded models. Oh well.

Any suggestions out there? I just want to control my iPod via the car's controls, and would like to see the text of what song is playing on the audio display.

Many thanks.

Is controlling your iPod from the dash that much harder than the steering wheel? Get an aftermarket hu with voice control or tape your remote, or iPod even, to your wheel.

I dont think that you are going to be able to get your factory radio to display the song titles and artists and what not.

No, it's not that much harder. If I can't do it any other way, I would be fine controlling from the dials, as long as I can get to all albums and artists. I wouldn't need a remote (although I like that idea). I just wanted to find out all my options. What is an "hu"? (aftermarket hu).

I was told that with iSimple, I would be able to read the song titles and text on my factory radio (and I even called the company to verify it). I wonder if that is true.

I just installed an aftermarket unit in my '99, after getting fed up with the cassette adapter, and couldn't be happier. It controls the iPod, displays the song playing and even looks a lot nicer than the original Honda radio.

That is great to know, kdc. Do you control the iPod through the radio's dials? And plug the usb into a slot on the after-market? What did you get?
