But that was a Hyundai..not a Honda. This is, as they say, very disconcerting!
My second Honda EX-L V6 coupe. I had an '08; I should have run that puppy into the ground. This car doesn't hold a candle to it once you get in the damned thing. The touch screen is a pain..the push to start, well I just don't get that..I mean I have the keys guys..it's smaller in there, I'm 6'..it's tight..and the audio system simply sucks. Honda- are you listening?
I'm not a real techno guy and I'm reluctant to really check out the nav, for fear I'm going to discover some problems. It's more cluttered than the '08 nav, that's for sure. But what I can say is I have had a lot of cars and to say this is a premium sound system? Nah.Not even close.
So I called the dealer, they ran my VIN..supposedly the car doesn't have any patches or updates needed. You mean this is it? I have to get an aftermarket resolution to this? Spend what I'm thinking will be 5-700 bucks to have some kind of preamp and decent speakers installed? These are 2 ohm speakers? Huh?
This could really be a dealbreaker for me. I never even questioned the quality of Honda, I just out and bought another one. My bad I guess..but theirs too.
I'm going to call the region, whatever they call it..a higher authority. But after my son's trevails with Hyundai, and from what I read here, Honda's response- seems similar, surprisingly-I'm not expecting much.
Honda should address these electronic issues though, nav, audio, even if it costs them. Customer satisfaction brings them back guys..
Yeah, I did the same. Got caught assuming. We bought our new coupe and just figured it would be better than our 06. Actually, I think it is in most respects. But like you, I just can't except the poor audio quality.

Like someone else said, the patch did help. I have more volume and bass. So it went from poor to not good.
Nice job Honda!!

If you have a 2013, there are patches for your software. Your dealer may not be aware of it though..... which is common....

So, I have spent this past week reading posts and, with each passing day, I felt more uncomfortable having anyone there monkey with the car.

My car is not nearly as bad as many of you and is about 90% useable, even though it occasionally has some sort of software seizure. This is not the experience I was looking for but I'm not sure how to proceed from here.

Could I trouble Jaretr1 to post John Mendel's email address here? I would really like to give him my 2 cents. Maybe if enough Honda customers give him a piece of their mind, someone there will get motivated.

I know that as of this time, after 23 years of buying Honda's and Acura's, I will probably cross them off my list for future purchases because of this. What a damn shame!
I have been on this blog sense Nov. and I have learned a lot. Honda America service appears to have good communications with my dealer and I think they are aware of all the problems customers are having. At this point I wonder if Honda can afford to fix all the problems. There are issues with brakes, transmission, sound system, Navigation, blu tooth, heated seats, my car towed last week because it wouldn't start and others I'm not aware of. The problems are so numerous that the cars should be replaced not patched because the 'Patch doesn't appear to be a permanent fix. It would be nice to know what % of the total production of Accords have issues. I bet it's a lot higher than we think and Honda may really have a financial tiger by the tail. I don't expect to ever have all my issues corrected and the only thing I can do is never buy another Honda. Hope I'm wrong.

I don't expect Honda to report statistics but here is a glimmer of hope. Consumer Reports just sent subscribers their new products survey of which vehicles are a major focus. Should Honda's problems with the Accord be as widespread as I suspect, CR should be reporting on these issues in an upcoming issue of the magazine. If you are a subscriber to Consumer Reports and you own a 2013 Accord PLEASE take part in their new products survey!

I have been to both a Nissan and a Toyota dealer since posting in this thread last. Both of the sales people I talked to said they were aware of problems with the 2013 Accord. The Toyota dealership even had a used 2013 Accord on the lot for sale taken as a trade in. That tells me that a lot of folks are smelling lemons lately when they think of the Honda Accord. Getting a "Not Recommended" rating from CR may be just what new Accord owners need to make Honda realize they need to start addressing these deficiencies post haste.

Just so nobody thinks Toyota may be the solution... I purchased a 2012 Camry XLE Hybrid in late Nov 2012 and immediately (the next day) found problems with the NAV system; it stopped giving verbal directions. The NAV system is part of one unit that also includes audio, satellite audio, CD, Bluetooth, phone functions, voice recognition, climate control, emergency flashers and passenger side airbag controls. This system crashed twice in less than 4 weeks, at which time none of the functions described above would work. This became a safety issue, but unlike the Accord, restarting the ignition did not solve the problems. I had the car into the dealership 9 times in 6 weeks. Every time they tried something, they made things worse. Finally, I invoked our jurisdiction's Consumer Warranty Law and demanded a refund. After 8 weeks, I received a FULL REFUND for the Camry and bought the 2013 Accord... who knew? I wish I had found this forum before I bought the Accord in mid Feb.

I must admit that the local Honda dealership, and Honda Canada are much more responsive than Toyota was. I am going to give them a few more weeks before I raise the spectre of the Consumer Warranty Protection Law.

What is Consumer Warranty Protection Law? How do you invoke it?

Lets remember the automotive press blasted the 2012 Civic, and CR also did not recommend it. It happened to end up the best selling small car but Honda did a major overall anyway after only a year. This time around the press has praised the Accord, but a do not recommend from CR would definitely hurt. Doubt that will happen though.

I have faith in the car. Again, I like the way it rides and drives, and I love the performance of the V6. If Honda doesnt come up with a good solution to the audio problem, I will most likely end up spending several thousand on a real premium audio system. Even if I felt like I needed to get rid of the car, quite honestly, there is nothing else comparable for the price. A Camaro or Mustang V6? NO WAY. Go up to an G37 Coupe? To expensive. So I am stuck with it.

Note, I just changed the oil and the tech who did it for me said he has already seen a 2013 Accord V6 come in with a leak in the seal of the transmission. My car had no such leak or any leaks. My 2006 Acura RSX never leaked a drop of anything.

I also received a call from my regional customer service rep today, and I returned his call but he never got back to me. I am scheduled for a followup on Wed. I will try him again tomorrow, I am quite curious as to what he has to say. I made it pretty clear in the email I wrote what I was looking for as far as a solution to this problem.

We were in the same boat and considered the same cars you did. Overall, we really like the car except for the crappy audio.

I hate it that I may have to spend more money upgrading the system, but we'd take a bath if we tried to trade it off.

Got a call from Honda today after filing my complaint but they called my home phone and left a message. Even after I specifically requested they call my cell. I'm going to call asap to see what they have to say.

He did say in the message they would have the service mgr from the dealership follow up on my issue. Like that's going to help!! All he knows to do is the patch. And I've already had that done.

I'm afraid this is going to be a waste of time.

Despite my misgivings, the dealer has my car and is doing whatever one does with auto software. Bug fix, re-install, etc. They sound confident but I am not. I was told I would have to re-do my bluetooth install and reset the radio stations, which I can live with, provided the bugs are gone. I'll post again when I get the car back.

I am taking it to a good car stereo place for good speakers, sub, and probably an amp to drive them. I can't stand the stereo as it is and that is a taste issue, not function. You could fight forever over semantics, so I'm just going to take my lumps.
