Default Bass was lost with upgrade

I had a 2000 Accord LX with stock speakers and a stock receiver. Once I upgraded to a Jensen CD player receiver, everything improved. Most people would ask me if I hada subwoofer in my car, and I would gladly tell them that I didn't. I don't know what it was, but it sounded great. Well, about a month ago, one of my rear speakers blew. I had to turn the volume up loud so that the distortion couldn't be heard. Both speakers still produced great bass. Well, two days ago, I decided to change my Jensen for a Sony Xplode GT300, and noticed that the sound for the cd stayed the same, but the volume for music off the radio was lower. Why is this? This, however, is not my problem. My concern is that a day ago I replaced my stock speakers with some 3-way 220w Pioneer speakers. They were $80. I lost some bass in parts of songs where I remember there being more bass before. Why is this? is it because the speakers reqire more power? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Default RE: Bass was lost with upgrade

That could be one explanation. The 'higher' you turn your headunits volume up, the more distortion it's going to put out. No matter what speakers you have, it will sound like crap.

That is why people by separate amplifiers. They have the ability to play louder with less distortion. You could almost say that you could never have enough power.

But where do you draw the line? A 1,000 watt amp for a pair of 6X9's?

You also have to look at specifications of amplifiers to make sure it's the real deal.

I try to read as much as I can (magazines, manufactures websites, forums), and make my own decisions on what I want, what I want to spend, what will fit, etc....

Hope this helps,

StevePhy
