You got it. I now realize that switching completly to CD's in the early 90's is why I haven't bought or enjoyed a lot of music in the past 15 yrs. My ears were raised on the rich full sound of analog recordings, so CD's just sound loud and shrill to them. Equipment-wise, the only thing I have left of my old setup in the house is a Sony cassette deck. Turntable and anolog reciever are long gone but I am seeking to replace both and get the LP collection out of storage.

The old cassettes I mentioned being impressed with are just Sony type II Cro2 high-bias. The one I randomly grabbed out of the storage box when I decided to see what they new 6x9s could do was a recording I made of the WAR LP, "All Day Music." The first thing I heard was the little pops that got recorded as my turntable needle navigated the vinyl grooves in 1985, but I noticed the pops were very distinct, like the LP was really playing right there in my car. Then the track started and I almost had to pull off the road I was so blown away. I turned the volume up slowly with a big grin on my face as those 6x9's did what they're made to do. Again, it probably sounds kind of silly with no amp, and everything stock, but due to the fitment problems, I had never really had a great set of 6x9's in the back of my Accord. This is like wonderland to me.

lol.. that it is and it still sounds great. Not sure about cassettes but I read that vinyl is making a bit of a comeback lately. Sales are increasing every day. Glad I held on to all of mine. BTW all, sorry for going a bit OT with this but it's still about audio.

CD's were limited from the beginning with 44.1kHz sampling rates. the result is an obvious decrease in sound quality from pure analog. the benefit is consistency. but consistently bad isn't great.

i still listen to vinyl. i've heard some amazing 2 channel home systems (>$100,000) that were pretty remarkable. the difference between CD, vinyl, SACD is pretty obvious on them.

amusicdirect is a nice source for vinyl and some entry level turntables. a good needle and table is important.
