RE: sub question
If your amp is cutting off after several minutes of hard listening and then will switch back on after a few minutes then 90% chance your amp is overheating. Make sure youve got plenty of room ABOVE the amp for air flow. Amps release their heat thru the tops of their heat sinks so if there is no clearance above it or its mounted upside down, it wont cool properly. If you do have some clearance and have nowhere else to put it, go get a small 12V fan from your local car audio shop. They run about $20 and are a simply hookup. Slap it in there next to the amp and get to it.
Some other things to check - your gain should NOT be set any higher than the NOON position. Any higher than that and youre pushing your amp too hard. The gain isnt a volume control. All it does is match the output signal of your CD player to the input of the amp so that your amp isnt at 90% when your volume is only at 50%.

RE: sub question
Yeah, definitely want to fix that. The amp is still trying to dissipate its heat thru the top of the heat sink but since heat rises, its rising right back into the amp and its not cooling off at all. Flip that baby right side up and you should be all set.
